What is Connecta?
Connecta is billing and management software for internet service providers in Kenya. It runs Wi-Fi hotspots and PPPoE home internet on MikroTik routers, takes M-Pesa payments, and switches customers on and off automatically.
How much does Connecta cost?
You choose: pay as you grow from KES 300 a month (KES 15 per PPPoE user, less as you grow, plus 2 % of hotspot sales), a fixed plan from KES 499 a month, or a hybrid from KES 500 a month. There is no setup fee.
How much do I pay per PPPoE user?
On pay as you grow: KES 15 each for your first 100 users, KES 12 up to 500, KES 9 up to 2,000 and KES 6 above that. Fixed plans include 50 to 1,000 users and charge KES 4 to 8 for each extra one. Hotspot users are unlimited on every plan.
Is there a limit on users or routers?
Hotspot users are unlimited on every plan, and PPPoE users are never cut off: users above your allowance are simply billed. Pay as you grow has unlimited routers; Lite, Growth and Pro include 1, 3 and 10 routers, and Hybrid includes 2, with KES 200 for each extra router.
Which routers does it support?
MikroTik routers on RouterOS version 6 or 7, from small boards such as the RB750 and hAP to CCR routers.
How do I connect my router?
After your sign-up is approved you receive one line by e-mail. Paste it into your MikroTik terminal (Winbox or SSH). It sets up the VPN, RADIUS, hotspot and PPPoE, and the router shows online within a minute.
I have several routers. Does a customer who paid on one work on the others?
Yes. A payment belongs to the customer, not to a router: every MikroTik of your ISP accepts their login, with the same time left, and they can reconnect on any of your hotspots with their M-Pesa code. Moving customers or replacing a router is one action, with nothing lost.
Do customers pay with M-Pesa?
Yes. Customers pay with an M-Pesa prompt on their phone, or with Paybill or Till. Connecta confirms the payment and connects them automatically. You can use your own Paybill or Till.
Can customers pay by bank or card?
Yes. With card and bank switched on, the Wi-Fi page offers Visa or Mastercard and bank by Pesalink: the customer approves it in their bank app and is connected as soon as it is confirmed. Home customers can also pay into your bank account and report the deposit; you confirm it on your bank statement before their balance goes up.
Can I set speed limits?
Yes. Every package has its own speed, for example 2, 4 or 5 Mbps, and you can set a different limit for a single customer or device.
Is it reliable? What if a router goes down?
Every router is checked every 2 minutes. If a router, access point or radio drops, you see it on screen and get an SMS within minutes, and another when it is back. Router settings are backed up every night and all data is backed up, encrypted, off-site every day, so a dead router is replaced and its customers moved in one step.
Does it work for hotels, apartments and cafés?
Yes. Print vouchers at reception for guests, or let them pay by M-Pesa on the Wi-Fi page. Each package has its own time and speed, and you can run several buildings on one account.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Staff sign in with two-factor authentication, passwords and keys are encrypted, every router connects over its own WireGuard VPN, each ISP's customers and payments are kept apart, every change is recorded in an audit log, and backups are encrypted and copied off-site every day.
